Rhino Ark’s mission to safeguard Kenya’s vital water towers continues to advance in the South Western Mau. The fence construction team has successfully completed and powered 7.8 kilometres of new electric fence, marking another milestone in protecting one of Kenya’s most important ecosystems.
Mobilization for this latest phase began on 17 September 2025, with strong community involvement. Construction started at Kusumek Outpost, extending 2 kilometres northwards to the Sondu River near Chematich and 5.8 kilometres southwards toward Tirigoi Village. Each stretch of fence stands as more than a boundary — it’s a shield for forests, wildlife, farms, and livelihoods.

The Fence Technical Committee (FTC) — comprising Rhino Ark, the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Community Forest Association (CFA), and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) — continues to provide technical oversight and ensure transparency through every stage of the process.
Every kilometre fenced in the South Western Mau brings the vision of a fully protected ecosystem closer to reality — reducing human-wildlife conflict, curbing illegal encroachment, and securing the water sources that sustain millions.
Through partnership, community engagement, and persistence, Rhino Ark and its collaborators are helping restore and protect the South Western Mau for generations to come.
