Born
Free's Founder and President, Virginia McKenna,
pictured near Kanjwiri Hill, Northern Aberdares,
recently made an extensive visit to see the fence
project.
She said of her time in the Aberdares:
"The human imprint is almost invisible,
yet it is thanks to the wise decision of humans
that the unique and glorious environment of the
Aberdares has been saved. My glimpse of the ancient
forests, the moor lands, the life-giving water
springing from the high places, the wild animals
and flowers and, above all, the silence and the
peace, gave me an uplifting experience I shall
remember always."
Virginia McKenna, Founder & Director
, Born Free Foundation.
"It is amazing
to me that Rhino Ark and others have been able
to cut through all the politics and land grabbing
to bring Kipipiri into the area that will be enclosed
by the Aberdare Fence. Future Kenyans will forever
be grateful that this is being accomplished now
... when most of us reckoned that Kipipiri would
end up losing all of its conservation values.
I hope that the great success and vision that
Rhino Ark has brought to the Aberdare Fence will
somehow be repeated for other critical sites in
Kenya ... most importantly Mt. Kenya and the Mau
Forest Complex."
